Jim, who’s founding a company called TechShop and is now building out the San Francisco branch has all kinds of options for raising capital. Of course, maybe you don’t need that - driving an old car (previous post) could be paying off handsomely.

Great news! I’ve done my share of drilling at various properties, and it’s always a kind of gamble. (And fun to watch.)

At our house in CT, we have a 400′ deep well through solid granite with not a great recovery rate (3-5 gal/min), but with the cleanest water you could ever imagine.

You’ve mixed up the definitions of “patriotism” and “nationalism.” This is a distinction one learns (or ought to have learned) in high school civics, as a teenager. Nationalists tell you “My country, right or wrong.” Patriots tell you, “Give me liberty or give me death.”

Patriots condemn the bad things their country does, though two patriots may not necessarily agree on what those bad things are. Patriotism is the love of free men for their country, similar to agape, Godly love: hate the sin, love the sinner.

Another side point: Kennedy appealed more to our fear of the Soviets (and Sputnik) than to our patriotism.

You are so awesome! What a great shout out. I love our racing together, and you will NEVER embarrass yourself in front of me- well, actually I am sure you could if you tried. You have inspired me to get out my calendar and book in for our race schedule for this year!

I think we can take John again this year- probably his buddy too (can’t remember his name). I can’t wait to race in the Aaron Hillegass “Big Nerd” state park in 40+ years while the GA legislature is considering making an official statement about you!

these two books got me first from 214 pounds to 147 and second, from there to practice triathlons just for the joy of it.

Aaron, I’m not even 25 yet and I couldn’t keep up with you. I’m healthy and run 3 miles everyday, but that’s all I have in me. I’d say you’re rather athletic!

What a wonderful idea Aaron!

Regarding the assignment, a very similar idea came to me the other day, before I read this article. I’ve began an online “journal” of sorts, specifically as an outlet to my thoughts on the ideal virtues I should act by, to maintain a good life.

I do hope that my family and friends read my philosophical journal and get something out of it, in fact that’s the whole point: sharing these ideas on how to live a good life should theoretically improve all of our lives.

Robin, you are right. The 28% tax rate only applies to income over $82,250. Thus, lowering your to 70,000 would save you 28% of $17,750 and 25% of $12,250. So the savings would be only $8032, not $8400 as I claimed.
