About
Apr 23rd, 2007
My name is Aaron Hillegass, and I am best known as the author of “Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X” and as the founder of Big Nerd Ranch, Inc. I’m married to Michele, and we have two boys.
In building a life for myself, I have gained some wisdom, and this is an effort to gather, share, and improve this body of knowledge.
Uncertainty in life is unavoidable. There are two possible ways of coping with the unknowable future: hope and fear. This blog, then, is dedicated to meditations on hope and fear. I would like to increase the amount of hope in the world, and eliminate some of the fear.
I like uncertainty. I can imagine nothing worse than a life where I knew exactly what was going to happen. So, I will also be talking about some utterly practical matters like career planning, insurance, investing, and gambling.
In particular, one of my dreams is to create a place where great teachers and motivated students come together. A place where people come to learn the difficult stuff. A lot of this blog is about the process of creating that place.
I hope someone reads this and comments on it. Readers will keep me honest and help me to extend the ideas. I’m sure some of the posts will be interesting to you, some will be obvious and bland, and maybe a couple will annoy you. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
Aaron,

Your Cocoa book is the Best book by for for anyone who wants to program on their mac. Your style of teaching is simple and clear and it’s the only book I have ever read on the subject where its easy to follow and anyone with interest in the subject just gets it.. I know you get asked all the time but when are you going to write more? I know cocoa has grown bigger and bigger and one book may no longer be enough but a book that continues into new subjects like cocoa data and more on cocoa binding would be fantastic. Please keep up the good work.
I would suggest that the pictures that appear in the header were YOUR OWN images…
